About Our Founders
Daly & Black, P.C. is committed to winning. In each and every case. And regardless of whether we are handling a first party insurance claim, a personal injury matter, or a complex business dispute, we always align our interests with the client – never charging them for our time – but instead betting on our abilities. We take a fee only when you – the client - have achieved success. Period.
The founders of the firm are competitive by nature, and have long track records of remarkable success as trial lawyers who actually know how to try a lawsuit to verdict, and are not afraid to do so.
has been a trial lawyer for almost 20 years, with a concentration in litigation against insurance companies, overtime lawsuits, business litigation (oil and gas, real estate and general commercial) and personal injury.
Before starting his own firm, he was with Caddell & Chapman, one of the most respected plaintiffs' firms in Houston. Prior to that, Daly was a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, one of the largest defense firms in Houston.
Rick attended the University of California, Los Angeles, on a football scholarship, playing tight end for the Bruins. After a brief stint with the Denver Broncos, he attended the University of Illinois Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif (top 10 percent), as well as top 10 in his class.
Daly's hobbies reflect his competitive personality: golf, fishing, hunting and poker. He is also a devoted father to his daughter Payton.
has been a trial attorney for almost 15 years, with a concentration in litigation involving virtually every type of business imaginable, including litigating against Fortune 500 companies, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, oil and gas companies, and real estate companies. He also has successfully handled mass tort plaintiff litigation, and catastrophic personal injury matters, representing families that have lost loved ones.
Before starting his own firm, he was a partner at Gibbs & Bruns, L.L.P., arguably the nation's top commercial litigation boutique. He left that firm in 2009 to form Reynolds, Frizzell, Black, Doyle, Allen & Oldham, L.L.P. In his first year of helping launch that firm, John helped secure the 12th largest verdict in Texas for 2010 (also listed 1st in corporate verdicts) and the top Texas civil practice verdict for 2010. John attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he served as the first Hispanic student body president, Abbot of the Friar Society, and member of the Men's and Women's Athletic Councils.
John went on to pursue a dual degree at Texas, obtaining a J.D. and Masters in Public Affairs from the University of Texas School of Law and LBJ School of Public Affairs, respectively. While at the University of Texas School of Law, he received several endowed Presidential Scholarships, graduated Order of the Barristers (top ten graduating oral advocates), and was awarded the Neimann Cup, reserved for the top oral advocate at the University of Texas Law School. Among numerous other law school honors, John won the state and ATLA National Mock trial championships, going undefeated his last year, an unprecedented honor for which UT lit the tower orange.
When Black is not spending time with his two daughters, Sophia and Ava (which is rare!) he trains and competes in the Ironman triathlon. Each year, Black races the Ironman and, in the process, raises money for various charities. Over the years, Black has raised well over $100,000 for various charities, and in 2014 he was the second highest fundraiser for Challenged Athletes Foundation, racing the inaugural Boulder Colorado Iron Man.
In 2015, Black was selected by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society as one of five competitors worldwide to race in the Kona World Championship Ironman, and raised approximately $140,000 on behalf of Team in Training. Black completed the Kona World Championship Ironman on October 10, 2015 and was greeted at the finish line by his law partner, friends, family, and loved ones. Since that time he has become a Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Board Member, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board.
At Daly & Black, we never take a case we do not believe we can win, we receive nothing until we win, and we make no settlement of any nature without our client’s approval. Our attorneys leverage results - not time.
