Tornado Claims

insurance companies or corporate defendants are in the business of protecting their bottom line, which often means they deny valid claims for losses sustained after a tornado, hurricane, or other natural disaster. These losses can be devastating, leading to losses that are nearly impossible to fully catalogue. More than that, victims can be left with nothing at all, as high winds may blow personal affects miles away and tornados frequently level property altogether.

At Daly & Black, P.C., our attorneys understand these complex claims and are ready to help. We get to know you and your situation in order to build a strong claim for damages, seeking the full and fair compensation you are entitled to under your insurance policy.

What to Do Following a Tornado Loss

After any natural disaster, your first priority is to make sure you and your loved ones are safe. Once you are out of danger, take the following steps:

  • Like with any loss, report the incident to your insurance company as soon as possible, even if you feel as if the damage was minimal or if your carrier informed you that you do not need to report the event.
  • Do not clean up the area. Instead, take videos and still photos using your camera or smartphone to document your losses. This can later be used as evidence in your claim.
  • Document the exterior of your property, including with windows, doors, foundation, roof, siding, stucco, HVAC equipment, trim, paint, gutters, vents, furniture, planters, deck, porch, pool, sheds, children’s play equipment, and anything else that was damaged. When doing this, try to capture every room and issue from multiple angles, including from an elevation, but only if it is safe to do so.
