“Dessalet” has been a litigation and trial paralegal for over
25 years. He has the distinction of being Rick Daly’s first Trial
Paralegal accompanying and assisting Rick during his very first jury trial
many years ago. John and Rick continued to go to trial and work on cases
together while at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, one of the largest defense
firms in Houston and Caddell & Chapman, one of the most respected
plaintiffs’ shops in Houston. John recently joined Daly & Black
from the office of the well-known trial attorney, Rusty Hardin where he
also tried many cases with Rusty and his team.
Throughout his career, John has spent hundreds of days working in state
and federal courtrooms during hearings and trials on cases involving insurance
coverage, intellectual property, toxic torts, industrial accidents, products
liability, maritime accidents, contract disputes, business litigation,
real estate transactions, construction defects, oil and gas matters, white
collar criminal defense, and many others. Handling trial presentation
and efficiently arming attorneys in court with documents and information
is where he excels.
This extensive experience in preparing for trial and working in the courtroom
gives John the advantage of working on cases from “file to trial.”
John’s factual development of cases, management of evidence, and
analysis of information is extremely valuable in preparing clients’
cases. He is also very enthusiastic in guiding clients through the processes
involved in responding to discovery, sitting for deposition, and preparing/attending trial.
John’s current role as Litigation Director allows him to continue
to work on cases and prepare for trial and also takes advantage of his
coaching, organization, and efficiency skills in handling some of the
day- to-day aspects of operating a growing law firm.
John has 2 grown children and 2 spoiled rescue Beagles. During his free
time, he enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Rosemarie, travelling,
listening to live music, salsa dancing, and exploring outdoor activities.
